Registration
THE CHALLENGE: Replace an archaic registration flow that was overly-complicated and struggled to capture user interaction data, with a new mobile-first flow that provided configurability but simplicity and better captured users who didn't complete the flow.

01
THE OLD FLOW
Some of the issues to address:
-
Users were often confused by the complexity of the flow.
-
Users who didn't complete registration were not captured.
-
The experiences of registering oneself vs registering another user vs editing one's registration were inconsistent.
02
The Key Concept
The first thing we did was to revisit the entire concept of registration. Instead of just a form with fields and values, we redefined the process to be one in which a user declares their participation roles within an event — are they an attendee? A fundraiser? A volunteer?
Once the user has selected their roles, the rest of the registration flow falls neatly into place.
And so was born Role Registration.

03
The details
-
The new design would be mobile-first.
-
It would maintain consistency between the experience of registering oneself, registering others, and editing a registration.
-
The new flow would capture critical user data immediately so that even if they abandoned the flow, they could be encouraged to return and complete it.
-
There would be a flow specifically to make it easier for returning users to re-register.
